Vocational Counselling (Career X-Ray)

A variety of tests are administered to understand the values, personality characteristics, professional strengths and developmental needs of clients. Personality tests and profiles are offered to determine the best types of "Career Match" for the individual. "Career Match" is the matching of an individual's innate abilities to the requirements of the career.

TESTS:

PERSONALITY  (MBTI) (PRF) (Free tests)

(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) (Personality Research Form)

Personality traits are considered to be natural, life-long attributes of an individual. Using this theory, each individual will have certain innate abilities and disabilities.

An individual's success will in part rely on that person being able to use those strengths and not having to rely too heavily on his/her weaknesses.

Using these two personality tests, we will be able to outline the critical success factors necessary for individuals to reach their potential. We will also be able to identify some career areas where they will be most likely to thrive.

VALUES EXERCISE

In order to define an individual's personal success, we must first understand their own individual values and what they mean to them. This is the umbrella under which everything else must come.

SKILL SCAN

For individuals to enjoy their work, they must be able to enjoy their days and the tasks they are filled with. The Skill Scan allows individuals to choose exactly which activities they would want to be doing if there were no barriers, limits or constraints. "A vocational wish list."

INTERESTS

(Jackson Vocational Interest Survey)(Strong Interest Inventory)

Interest inventories are designed to outline the specific areas of interest held by an individual. They also compare individuals to other groups of people. If one is similar to those who are happy in their vocation, we may assume that this person may also enjoy the career. Using these two interest inventories, we are able to identify an individual's key areas of interest.

Vocational Counselling usually requires 4 - 6 sessions, however, they may vary depending on the needs of the individual.
